Exercise

  • Exercise keeps you fit and healthy
    • Current medical advice is to take 5 days of exercise each week consisting of 30 minutes of an activity that raises the pulse rate. Suitable activities include brisk walking, running, aerobics, swimming, cycling.
    • If you are unfit or on medication it is wise to visit your doctor for advice and tests before starting any vigorous exercise.

 

 

  • Exercise burns calories
    • The more you raise your pulse rate the more calories you burn.
      • Walking one mile briskly - 100 calories
      • Walking briskly for one hour - 400 calories
      • Cycling for one hour at 13mph - 600 calories
      • Aerobics for one hour - 540 calories
      • Running at 10mph for one hour - 650 calories
  • Some exercises can help keep you 'regular'
    • Walking, jogging and running are known to stimulate the bowel in some people, although the exact reasons for this are not fully understood yet.
