- Current medical advice is to take 5 days of exercise each week consisting of 30 minutes of an activity that raises the pulse rate. Suitable activities include brisk walking, running, aerobics, swimming, cycling.
- If you are unfit or on medication it is wise to visit your doctor for advice and tests before starting any vigorous exercise.

- Walking one mile briskly - 100 calories
- Walking briskly for one hour - 400 calories
- Cycling for one hour at 13mph - 600 calories
- Aerobics for one hour - 540 calories
- Running at 10mph for one hour - 650 calories
